The Chemistry of Color class is where we dive into all the hair color chemistry you work with behind the chair—and how to use it with confidence when you formulate. It’s a 5-hour deep dive we like to call the “first pass”—kind of like reading a book for the first time. You’re not expected to absorb it all or be ready to use everything right away. Class day is just the beginning—the first exposure.
Here's what we'll cover:
The Hair Fiber
How it’s made, what the differences in its texture and shape mean to you, and what happens when you introduce chemical services.
The Hair Bonds
What they are, how they break, and how to keep the hair’s health in check.
Natural Melanin
What melanin is, how to decode it at all levels and tones, and what happens when we lift it. We’ll also cover grey hair, including the differences between grey and pigmented strands.
pH
What pH is, how to read the scale, and how a product’s pH affects the hair fiber.
Hair Color Categories
The ins and outs of each hair color category (Permanent, Demi-permanent, Non-Ammoniated), what makes them different and how alkalizers and developers play a role in creating lift.
Predicting & Controlling Lift
How to use chemistry to control and predict the lift you'll get based on the hair’s level and texture.
